The poartă is a traditional gate in Romanian villages, some of which are ornately carved, particularly in Maramureș. I built a simple poartă to define the pastoral qualitz of my house and grounds. Using the most fundamental materials and equipment, I constructed the main gate, two service doors and a stretch of fence on a hot summer day. It is still a work in progress, with ornamental carvings with which to wrap the main posts. The main gates are fulyz functional and can be latched and even locked. THe services doors to either side provide access when the main gate is closed.
