Perhaps one of my greatest inspirations for creating structures in aggregate

stone springs from my exposure to ancient ruins in Romania. I find an unrelenting quality in stone that captures                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     the endurance of the natural world;

 these stone compositions are a way of insinuating the

human creative spirit in nature.

"victoria's cottage"

     "the wall" is part of a sculptural series that refers to the "western wall" in jerusalem. each wall

that I create embodies the spiritual, archaeological, and and historical significance of solomon's

temple, and its religious and structural properties as a site that invokes the intersection of time and

history.  it features a free standing structure that relies on load-bearing principles for stability, complimenting natural physical

forces. part of its artistic composition is the element of faith and reflection inherent in ordering the courses of stone as an

exercise in the awareness of sacred space.

The Hamangia Man, also knowwn as the Thinker of Cernavoda is based on a figurine recovered from the Black Sea coast dating back to 3500BC. This piece was carved from oak. The lighthouse below is staged in Lake Erie. Martello Tower, draws its inspiration from Ulysses, by James Joyce.

My first concept piece of a free standing

wall.

The Thracian Rider (above) is a casting in tin-bismuth in the round. The piece was inspired by a bas relief from Thracian burial sites dating back to 4 BC.

I had the idea to combine bas relief with natural stone to reproduce a likeness of Mt Rushmore. Here is the working layer in clay.

Here it is with patina.

I staged one of  my Hamangia figurines on the shore of Lake Erie. Below  left is the clay model used for the stone casting. I used a virtual museum site in Bucharest in order to scale the model to the original figurine. Below right is a closeup of the casting.
